US 1100: Bobcat Beginnings is a foundational course designed to support your transition into your academic college and your start at Texas State. In this course, you will be introduced to college-level expectations, scholarly practices, and the academic advising structures that will guide your success.
Through reflection and intentional engagement, you will build the skills and confidence to navigate university systems, make informed academic decisions, and take ownership of your educational journey. You’ll actively engage in academic advising and planning, explore academic and career pathways, connect with faculty, and participate in opportunities within your college that support your learning, persistence, and progress toward graduation.
US 1100 is required for all first-year students and is designed to be completed during your first semester. The course is offered in a small class setting, creating space for meaningful connections with your instructor and peers as you begin to build your college community.
Courses are organized by academic college to help you explore your field of interest early and connect your academic experience to future career goals. You’ll learn from a dedicated group of faculty, academic advisors, staff, and administrators—each bringing valuable perspectives and a shared commitment to your success.

This course supports first-year students’ transition into their academic college by introducing college-level expectations, scholarly norms, and academic advising structures. Through structured reflection and engagement activities, students examine strategies for navigating university systems and academic decision-making. Students participate in academic advising and planning activities, examine academic and career pathways, interact with faculty, and review college-specific opportunities and resources. The course addresses university expectations, academic planning processes, and resources available within the college. Enrollment in this course is required for all first-year students as a foundational component of the university experience.
