The Department of Organization, Workforce, and Leadership Studies offers two distinct master's programs designed for professionals focused on career success in workplaces, organizations or in technical education settings.
The Interdisciplinary Studies program with a concentration in Organization, Workforce, and Leadership Studies offers a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (M.A.I.S.) or Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (M.S.I.S.) . Students from varied backgrounds and professions gain skills highly valued in workplaces and by organizations, such as interdisciplinary studies and research, leadership, and organization development, while engaging in different disciplines to understand and examine relevant topics or problems. Students work closely with their advisor to customize a degree plan of courses aligned with their individualized career objectives and area of specialization. Each degree has the same rules about course choice and requirements, so potential students may choose either degree based on their preference. The Master of Arts (M.A.) or Master of Science (M.S.) in Interdisciplinary Studies is 39 credit hours.
The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Management of Technical Education program prepares graduates to manage instructional personnel in an educational or training environment. Graduates learn the skills needed to supervise educators or trainers in community colleges, universities, businesses, the military, the civil service, K-12 career and technical education, technology education, or other education and training sites. Students can hone their technical education and administrative skills through courses in career and technical education, including methods of teaching and training, the professions of teaching and training, technology of teaching and training, program evaluation, leadership, organization development, and human relations. The Management of Technical Education degree is 36 hours. Both the M.A.I.S./M.S.I.S. and M.Ed. programs are offered in a fully online or hybrid format to meet the needs of today's career-minded students. Students work with a faculty advisor or graduate success coach to coordinate their degree choices based on their professional goals and aspirations. Faculty with expertise in adult learning, online learning, technical education, and a variety of disciplines create robust online learning environments to promote student success.
Our programs are designed for part-time study while working, or full-time study, and may be completed from most locations. We offer flexible course scheduling, including accelerated courses on 8-week half-semester terms or 5-week summer terms, to allow students to move quickly through the program. We offer advising and support in San Marcos, Round Rock, and online. You may visit our website for additional information on our programs and to contact a faculty advisor or graduate success coach for an individualized appointment. Your advisor and departmental faculty can assist you in outlining and supporting your career goals with a relevant degree, whether you have or are seeking a career in the following:
