Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) Major in Nursing (Second Degree) - Online Accelerated Program

Admission Requirements

  1. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degree with a major in Nursing requires admission to Texas State University prior to submitting the St. David's School of Nursing application. For more information visit: http://www.nursing.txstate.edu/
  2. Texas State students interested in pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences pre-nursing concentration upon entry into Texas State University.  A separate admission application for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is required.   
  3. Graduation with a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university. Conditional admission will be offered to HSBS Spring degree graduation candidates. Full admission for HSBS graduates will be offered upon conferral of the degree. 
  4. Applicants must have a nursing prerequisite GPA of 3.0 or higher. A minimum grade of "C" is required for NUTR 2360 and HDFS 1351 or PSY 3300. The nursing prerequisite GPA is calculated based on grades in the following courses:

  5. Applicants must also have a Science GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Science courses require a minimum grade of “C” for admission. Applicants may have "CR" for BIO 1330 or CHEM 1341, but not both courses. A maximum of 8 attempts (including W) on the 5 science courses listed below, with no more than 2 attempts on any one science course, is permitted.  At least 3 science courses must be completed with a minimum grade of "C". The science GPA is calculated based on grades in the following courses or their equivalent:

General Requirements

The program can be completed via Accelerated Online (AOP).

  2. For transfer students, 34 semester credit hours may be transferred from a Texas public institution of higher education for the Nursing Field of Study and be applied to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree with a major in Nursing at Texas State University. More information about the Field of Study is available in the Academic Policies section of this catalog.   3. Students must complete a minimum of 36 advanced hours (3000 or 4000 level courses).
  4. Nine hours of writing intensive (WI) courses are required for graduation.
  5. Any student who did not complete at least two years of the same foreign language in high school is required to take 6-8 hours of the same foreign language.
  6. To graduate with a B.S.N., a student must successfully complete all nursing courses with a “C” or better in addition to completing all prerequisite courses.
  7. All students must have attained a 2.0 or higher Texas State University GPA with a minimum of a 2.50 GPA in the Nursing major to graduate.
  8. All students must complete the B.S.N. program in three years from the time of first admission.
  9. Each nursing course is offered only once each academic year; therefore, progress in the program is delayed if the student fails a course. A student may repeat a nursing course only once. A second nursing course failure or withdrawal from nursing courses will result in the student being dismissed from the nursing program. However, the student is not dismissed from Texas State University.
