Career Services provides compassionate, comprehensive career assistance to the Texas State family. Services incorporate leading practices to guide students through all stages of their career development and progression from college to career.

Students have access to a wide array of career-related programs, resources, and career development support.

Career Planning and Exploration

Individual career counseling and planning assistance is available to students as they select a major and establish their career goals. Career assessments and web-based guidance programs are also available to facilitate this process. In addition, counselors can review job search materials and assist with post-graduate program applications.

Career Advising and Job Search Strategies

Career Advisors are available to meet one-on-one with students to discuss their job search preparation. Topics of discussion include résumé and cover letter writing, interviewing techniques, and salary negotiations. Workshops focused on career development and professionalism are offered throughout the school-year to help in the transition from student to professional.

Resources are available to help students find part-time and full-time work, college work-study, internships and summer employment. These opportunities can be searched in an online database, Jobs4Cats. Students should be prepared in advance with résumés, class schedules, applications, and proof of employment eligibility.

Job Shadowing and Internships

Job shadowing is a short term opportunity for students to discover various career options. This experience includes spending time with professionals inside different organizations gaining firsthand knowledge about diverse career fields, and serves as a critical component of career exploration. Internship opportunities are available to refine career goals, gain practical experience, and expand students’ views of the world. Often, internships serve as key experiences that lead to full-time opportunities.

Employer Connections

Career Services provides students and alumni the opportunity to interact with numerous employers for networking and employment purposes. Bobcats have access to Jobs4Cats, Texas State’s exclusive job search database, as well as many additional online resources that can be viewed at

Career Services hosts multiple career events each semester, including “All Majors” Spring and Fall Job and Internship Fairs, a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Job and Internship Fair, a Health Professions Fair, and a Mass Communication Career Fair. These events bring hundreds of employers to campus with internship, part-time, and full-time opportunities for students and alumni.

Additional networking is available through employer information sessions and panel presentations, annual externship days, and résumé referrals.

Career Services hosts a robust on-campus interviewing program. Each fall and spring semester, approximately 70 employers conduct 700+ interviews on campus for internship and full-time opportunities. All on-campus interviewing opportunities can be found in Jobs4Cats.
