The Department of Computer Science at Texas State is the hub of computing related education and research activities on the campus.

The department is on a mission to advance the knowledge of computer science and technology through education, research, and service for the betterment of industry, government, and society. We seek to become a competitive doctoral-granting department and to expand our depth and breadth in the research and study of applied computing.

Computer science faculty members actively pursue research in artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, computer communication and networking, computer security, database and information systems, distributed and parallel computing, human computer interaction, image retrieval, multimedia computing, sensor networks, social computing, and software engineering. The faculty's research has been supported by federal and state agencies and industry such as NSF, NIST, DoD, DoE, PNNL, LLNL, TxDOT, Semiconductor Research Consortium, IBM, Intel, NVidia, and Emerson. Our faculty members have obtained prestigious awards like NSF CAREER Awards and IBM Faculty Fellowship.

Computer science students take courses in a well-designed curriculum taught by the department's faculty members who are accessible, nurturing, and eager to engage students in learning and research. Students have access to an array of hardware, system software, and applications in our first-class computing laboratories.
