The Department of Physics strives to provide an exciting, rigorous educational environment that stresses relevant research, classroom learning, extensive use of peer instruction, and opportunities for work in industrial settings. Our faculty members conduct research in condensed matter physics, physics education, and historical astronomy.

Graduate students are involved in research as part of their degree plans. We have state-of-the-art research facilities, both within the department and shared user laboratories that provide meaningful experiences for our students, as well as dedicated faculty who work closely with students. Our master’s graduates can continue to an innovative, multidisciplinary Ph.D. program in materials science, engineering, and commercialization offered at Texas State.
